This aint correct....

Recently, I had been to Food Bazaar (Andheri West) which is part of the BIG BAZAAR retail chains .

I found that some of the items kept there were way beyond their expiry dates(eg a sunscreen lotion of Blossom Kochchar had expiry as Jan 2008),but still they were on the shelves.

Isnt it the lookout of these chain owners to keep stock of such things? The unsuspecting consumer, usually time-pressed, cannot afford to check for expiry dates of each & every item of purchase.

The least these chain owners can do is check  whether they are selling valid products. This qualifies as cheating on their part to sell such products to the unsuspecting consumer.

Agreed - it is definitely unethical. I hope somebody makes an issue out of this.
Times of India did carry an article about it last week.
I have had a similar experience too. In fact, I have noticed that food products which sport a Buy One Get One Free scheme or a heavy discount are usually only a week away from their expiry date.

retail boom

all the big players are riding on big retail wave but yet to realize the fact that they dont have enough maturity to run such business as what Walmart has. Until then, we need to be extra cautious and always bring to their notice whatever issues are found.
